Crack Management SRP (PRCI)
PRCI Strategic Research Program for pipeline crack management, detailing roadmap, priorities, and projects for
The Crack Management SRP is a PRCI Strategic Research Program focused on efficient and effective management of pipeline crack-related threats. The SRP is divided into four areas (Susceptibility; Inspection; Management; Assessment and Remediation) and presents a roadmap with prioritized projects (including NDE-4-12, MAT-8-3 and related tasks) spanning continuous improvement of ILI, understanding why cracks fail, material property database enhancement, advanced threat management for autogenous weld defects and environmentally assisted cracking, NDE/ILI qualification, acquisition of real pipeline defects, and reliability model framework development. The program emphasizes using resources on highest-risk pipelines, reducing unnecessary excavations, improving operator confidence in inspection techniques, and producing actionable assessment and remediation guidance (e.g., remaining strength variables, dig/repair criteria, and reassessment intervals).
