Tools to play HLS stream URLs on TV

The problem, in plain words: “I want an app on my TV that can fetch, present, and play a list of HLS (.m3u8) stream URLs without manually pasting them via a remote.”

IPTV Player Live: M3U & Xtream fits best, with 2 more that fit too.

You want a TV app that can automatically load a list of HLS (.m3u8) stream URLs from a source and let you browse/play them without manually pasting links with a remote.

What fits

IPTV Player Live: M3U & Xtreamstrong · 83

It’s an iPhone/iPad/Apple TV (tvOS) IPTV player that imports M3U/M3U8 playlists and can start browsing channels from an imported web URL, so you get a presented list you can select and play on TV without hand-pasting many .m3u8 links via a remote. The listing also positions it as a playlist-driven live/VOD player rather than a single-link player.

Best for: Apple TV (tvOS) users who want to browse and play channels from imported M3U/M3U8 playlists loaded from a web URL.

Partly fits

hls-restream-proxypartial · 52

It helps HLS playlist links keep working (header/token/refresh), but it isn’t a TV app that fetches and presents a browsable .m3u8 list for selection.

Won’t cover: It focuses on proxying and rewriting IPTV/HLS streams for media servers rather than providing a TV user interface to browse a list of HLS URLs.

M3U8 Playerpartial · 43

It can play and test M3U8 URLs, but it’s a browser-based toolkit rather than a TV app experience with a TV-friendly list UI.

Won’t cover: It’s browser-based, so it doesn’t provide a dedicated TV app that fetches and presents a stream list on your TV remote.
